Multilingual Tales in English, Spanish & Languages of the Philippines

“Philippine folklore manifests the richness of Filipino creativity, the depth of the Filipino soul and the complexity of the Filipino identity. Being a nation of more than 7,100 islands, it is easy to imagine how the pre-colonial tribes prided themselves of the customs and rituals that distinguished them from one another. This profound sense of identity has led to many stories that delved on bravery, the quest for love, the heartbreak of loss, and respect for family and authority”.

But Much more than an Archipelago… Tales from the Philippines is not just a compilation of tales: it is also a multilingual tool for intercultural education, languages learning and education for sustainable development. This UNESCO-funded initiative from the TALIS Group, the Universitat de València, Bulacan State University and Little Free Library in the Philippines will take you on a fascinating journey around the Philippines in 78 richly illustrated tales. Each tale is also available in audio format from  http://proyectotalis.com, where you can hear the sounds of the different languages and improve them: English, Spanish, Tagalog, Cuyonon, Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Surigaonon, Pangasinan, Kapampangan, Bicolano and Waray.

This is also a humanitarian project. The funds raised from the sales of this book will be allocated to the Little Free Library in the Philippines, so as to support their commitment to the development of a reading culture, the dissemination of literacy and the nurturing of the research and collection of folkloric stories from all over the archipelago.
